NBC Sports Utilizes RTS Intercom Hardware for its Production of Olympic Winter Games

NBC Sports has selected RTS as its intercom hardware provider for its production of the XXIV Olympic Winter Games, from Beijing, China, February 2–20, 2022. The announcement was made today by John Pastore, Director Broadcast Communications, NBC Sports, and Ronny van Geel, Director Global Product Management, RTS.

NBCUniversal provides coverage of the 2022 Olympic Winter Games from Feb. 2-20, featuring a Winter Olympics-record 2,800+ hours of coverage across NBC, Peacock, USA Network, CNBC, NBCOlympics.com and the NBC Sports app. The Opening Ceremony was presented on Friday, Feb. 4, live in the morning and again in primetime on NBC and Peacock. Similar to recent Winter Games, NBC’s primetime Olympic coverage began the night before the Opening Ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 3. Coverage began on Wednesday, Feb. 2, on USA Network and Peacock. NBCUniversal is presenting its 18th Olympic Games, 12th consecutive overall, and sixth straight Winter Games, all the most by any U.S. media company.

“Producing the Winter Olympics in Beijing push NBC Sports to not only think outside the box, but rather leave the box behind,” said Pastore. “With the complication that Covid safety brings to Olympics planning and deployment, RTS comes through with products like VLink, RVON and Trunking, giving us the freedom and comfort to work outside of that box.”

NBC Sports has worked with RTS for over 25 years, and this year will continue to utilize Trunking solutions and technologies that are crucial to the delivery of NBC Sports’ Olympic Winter Games production.

“RTS is honored to have been NBC Sports’ broadcast intercom partner for over 25 years,” said van Geel, “We successfully supported the NBC Sports’ production team on their transition from analog to IP, which has enabled all their local and global locations to act as a single virtual location, thanks to our unique RTS Trunking solutions. The installation for NBC Sports’ coverage of this event will leverage RTS technologies including OMNEO high-quality audio for local communication, RVON for international comms, and now VLink.”
